VOICES FROM THE HILLS: ELISABETTA STRAMARE AND HER NEW AGRITURISMO PRA DELL'ORT

  09 MAR 2026

The Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Hills are not only an extraordinary landscape of vineyards and small villages. Above all, they are stories of people who live, work, and care for this territory every day.

With the series Voices from the Hills, we want to share these stories through the words of those who truly know these hills: producers, guides, restaurateurs, artisans, and local businesses that help make the landscape of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG so unique.

PRA' DELL'ORT IN VALDOBBIADENE:

THE STORY OF THE GEMEN FAMILY AMONG VINEYARDS AND VALDOBBIADENE PROSECCO SUPERIORE DOCG

The hills of Valdobbiadene are much more than a landscape known all over the world. Behind the vineyards that shape the ridgelines and the bottles of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, there is above all a story of families, work, and deep roots in the land.

One of these stories is that of the Gemin family. Elisabetta, together with her brothers Luigi and Luca and their mother Paola, continues a family tradition that combines the production of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG at the winery Spumanti Gemin with hospitality at the new countryside retreat Pra' dell’Ort, opened in 2025 and surrounded by vineyards.

We asked her a few questions to understand what it means to grow up and live every day among these hills.

You grew up in a family producing Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG. What are your memories of these hills as a child?

For me, the hills have always been home. As a child I saw them as a huge playground of freedom: running between the vineyard rows, following my parents in the vineyards, and breathing in the scents of freshly cut grass and ripe grapes in September.

Is there a moment from your childhood that makes you realize how deeply this territory is part of your story?

I grew up in Valdobbiadene from kindergarten all the way through high school. Every place, every story, every restaurant here brings back beautiful memories of belonging to a territory that is unique and admired all over the world.

For me, Valdobbiadene is made of friends, relationships, people, and family businesses that work every day to give their best to this town.

Today you manage Pra dell’Ort agriturismo with your family. How did the idea of opening your home to guests come about?

It happened very naturally. Over the years many customers and friends came to visit us at the winery and were fascinated by the landscape.

That’s when the idea came: why not give people the opportunity to stay here, experience these hills at a slower pace, and feel a little bit at home with us?

The old farmhouse that belonged to my grandfather was the starting point of this dream.

What is the difference between working the land and welcoming people who come here to discover it?

They are different but deeply connected. Working the land requires patience, respect for nature’s timing, and a lot of dedication.

Welcoming people means telling this story: explaining what lies behind a bottle of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG or behind this landscape.

What is the first reaction of visitors who come to the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Hills of Valdobbiadene for the first time?

Many are surprised by the beauty of the landscape. They don’t expect hills that are so steep, so orderly, and so harmonious.

The first thing they usually do is stop, look at the view… and take a photo.

Is there something about the landscape or vineyard work that visitors cannot fully understand until they see it themselves?

The effort behind working these hills. They are beautiful, but also very demanding.

Many vineyard operations must be done by hand because of the steep slopes. When people see this up close, they realize how much work lies behind every bottle of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG.

Over the years you’ve met guests from many countries. Is there a moment that stayed with you?

There are many, but what always touches me is when guests return.

When someone comes back after a few years and says,

"This place stayed in our hearts,"

you understand that what you do truly matters.

What changes when people explore these hills slowly — maybe on foot or by bike — instead of simply driving through them?

It completely changes the way you experience the landscape. When you walk or cycle, you notice the details: small villages, vineyards, and the scents of the countryside.

You truly enter the rhythm of the territory.

What is the most beautiful moment of the day at Pra' dell’Ort?

Sunrise. When we are lucky enough to see the sky turning red and orange while the light illuminates the farmhouse and the surrounding vineyards.

If you had to show a friend these hills for the first time, how would you plan the perfect day?

I would start with a night at Pra dell’Ort Agriturismo and a rich breakfast overlooking the vineyards.

Then I would continue with a visit to the Spumanti Gemin winery to explain the production process of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, followed by a walk through the vineyard rows and a tasting.

After that, maybe a traditional lunch in the area and, depending on the season, some relaxation in the wellness center or a ride through the hills on an e-bike.

Experiencing the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Hills by e-bike

Pra' dell’Ort is also one of the places where visitors can start exploring the Prosecco Hills directly. For many years we have collaborated with the Gemin family by providing our e-bikes directly at the agriturismo, allowing guests to explore the area through vineyards, villages, and panoramic roads.

Riding among the vineyards of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, along the scenic roads of the Prosecco Hills, is one of the most authentic ways to experience the rhythm of this territory.
